How to Audition for a Named Role:

  1. Sign up for an audition slot using the Sign Up link. There is no dance call. While sign-ups are required, every effort will be made to accommodate walk-ups as time allows.

2. Fill out the online audition form. Printed blank forms will also be available at auditions for those who need them.

3. The Sudbury Savoyards cast named singing roles through a competitive audition process. The audition will consist of 2 parts:

a. Music
If you would like to audition for a named role (see below), please prepare the selection from “The Gondoliers” recommended by the directing team for your preferred role or voice part. You do not need to bring a copy of the musical side you prepared; the provided accompanist will have all sides already. You will be considered for all roles, unless you have specifically indicated otherwise. If you are interested in multiple roles, you are welcome (but not expected) to prepare additional sides.

If you prefer to prepare a song not from the show and/or the recommended list of pieces, you may do so. Please bring your own sheet music and prepare a selection approximately 32 bars long. An accompanist will be provided. We recommend that it be in a similar style to the show and showcases your voice for your preferred role.

b. Readings from the script
You will also be asked to read a side (a short selection from the script) associated with your role(s) of interest. Note that while “side” comes after “music” alphabetically, this is musical theater! The director is looking for you to act while you perform your musical selection.

Video Auditions:

Video auditions are accepted for preliminary auditions, but not for callbacks.

1. Please remember to fill out the online audition form when you email your video, or you will not be considered.

2. Email a single YouTube or Vimeo video link (“public” or “unlisted”- make sure it is not “private”) containing each of the requested materials (music and side) no later than Wednesday, October 16th, at 6 pm to sarah@sudburysavoyards.org

3. Please state your name, and the character(s) for which you’d like to be considered (as well as the title of your song if you are not singing the provided music.) Please do not perform a cappella. Backing tracks are available on YouTube https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLihG0rQKL9hYJh5Z5iB6OebzIDL0K_1zQ&si=fqDXEsej8IcdXVQx

PLOT SYNOPSIS

The Gondoliers revolves around two handsome brothers, Marco and Giuseppe Palmieri, who are Venetian gondoliers.  After a playful selection process, the brothers marry the farm girls, Gianetta and Tessa. All seems well until the brothers learn that one of them is the rightful heir to the throne of Barataria. They struggle with this new development, as they despise the idea of ruling a monarchy and prefer the simplicity of their gondolier lives. Another surprise emerges when one of the brothers was wed in infancy to the daughter of the Duke of Plaza-Toro.  The daughter is secretly in love with the servant, creating a love triangle. In the end, the rightful heir is identified, and everyone is restored to their rightful partner.

About The Sudbury Savoyards

The Sudbury Savoyards are a community theater organization founded in 1961. We became an independent non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in 2016. Since first production we have performed the light operas “operettas” of W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan (G&S). Today our motto is “Gilbert and Sullivan on a Grand Scale,” and we perform with a large orchestra and cast in addition to full staging, lights, and costumes.

Charity has been an important component of our company and in the 30 years prior to 2016, we donated over a quarter of a million dollars to world hunger relief. Today we continue to work within the limits of being a non-profit arts organization to support hunger relief through collaborations with other organizations.

We are a volunteer organization and welcome your commitment to our purpose.

We do not provide housing or stipends. We are not able to accommodate union artists.
