When Steve first got connected to the internet in 1996, the first thing he did was type Gilbert and Sullivan into the search engine and found The Sudbury Savoyards. He immediately called orchestra managers Bill and Nancy Burdine to volunteer his services and lucky for us he was hired as Principal Clarinet for our 1997 production of The Yeomen of the Guard.
How appropriate it is that we are honoring Steve this year for his unparalleled dedication
and enthusiasm to this organization. His participation is not always in the orchestra
pit or at the piano, it is just as much behind the scenes as Graphic Designer, Master
Carpenter, Set Painter, Trustee, Videographer, and Props Construction, as well as at the
computer as Webmaster, Listmaster, Playbill, and Publicity, just to name a few of the
many tasks no one may ever hear about.
Whether he is waving his baton in front of an orchestra, re-writing an entire score so it is
easier to follow, turning old wooden organ pipes into halberts at C.B. Fisk in Gloucester,
or practicing the score while voicing an organ in Japan, Steve not only meets the criteria
for this honor, but exceeds it with his deep understanding, patience, and vision for The
Sudbury Savoyards. |
