What does the “battle of the sexes” look like when all it takes is a skirt or a pair of trousers to switch sides? Have a chuckle and a think at this fresh interpretation of Gilbert and Sullivan’s beloved spoof, Princess Ida, set in a world where gender is determined entirely by clothing, and populated with scheming academics, impractical scientists, muscle-headed gym rats, would-be demagogues, and people who don’t quite fit the boxes made for them. Accompanied by the Sudbury Savoyards’ full scale live orchestra, treat yourself to some of the Boston area’s best talent, both up-and-coming and experienced, in this revamped operatic comedy.
2.5 hour approximate play time, plus a 15 minute intermission between acts 2 & 3

STAGE DIRECTOR
Princess Ida Stage Director, Rebecca Graber is a lifelong fan of Gilbert and Sullivan, having worn out VHSs of Iolanthe, The Pirates of Penzance, and The Mikado with repeated viewings as a child. She has previously directed Iolanthe, The Mikado, Utopia Ltd., and H.M.S. Pinafore with the MIT Gilbert and Sullivan players, and been onstage or building the stage for several others. She is particularly excited to turn her hand to a large-scale community production and the diversity of talents and experience that comes with it. She hopes to do her bit to prove that G&S still has a place in the 21st century, and maybe turn a few cartwheels along the way.
Stephanie Beatrice
MUSIC DIRECTOR
Princess Ida Music Director, Stephanie Beatrice is revered as "A Force of Nature with a Baton" and praised for her "Smart" musical direction. Beatrice currently serves as Music Director of the Cambridge Chamber Ensemble and is the newly appointed Music Director of the Choral/Orchestral Ensemble - Calliope. Beatrice holds a MM in Choral Conducting from the New England Conservatory of Music, and a BME in Music Education from the University of Maine. She is currently studying Orchestral Conducting at The Juilliard School - Extension Division. Having been involved in G&S productions such as The Mikado (Yum Yum), and HMS Pinafore (Conductor), Beatrice is a fan to the playful musical expressions and politically satirical librettis of of G&S.
