Synopsis:
It is 1750s Venice, and the ladies in town are all a flutter over two heartthrob gondoliers who plan to choose their brides. When Marco and Giuseppe propose to Gianetta and Tessa, the whole of Venice prepares to celebrate their wedding. Unbeknownst to all of them, a ducal Spanish family has just floated into town. Years ago, the bumbling Duke’s lovely daughter, Casilda, was married in infancy to the future King of Barataria. But Don Alhambra, the Grand Inquisitor, swapped the baby prince with a gondolier to save his life from a rebellious faction that recently met its end. Now it’s a hunt for the true King of Barataria- who will be king? What sort of king will he be? And, if the king is Marco or Giuseppe, what becomes of the brides they have just married? Giggle your way through this ridiculous saga of baby-swapping wrapped in sparkling, lively song and dance. Drink in the warm Venetian sunshine and float away on a river of shimmering operatic comedy featuring full orchestra, stunning costumes, and striking sets.

Meet Special Guest Star Inez, Martha Warren!
The versatile Martha Warren is known throughout the Boston area and New England for her operatic, operetta, musical theater and recital work. Praised for her dozens of performances as the Witch/Mother in Hansel and Gretel with Boston Lyric Opera, and for her Musetta with Raylynmor Opera, Warren is said to perform with “impressive verve and a bold, brassy approach…” (The Keene, Sentinel). Her star presence has also graced the stages of Granite State Opera and Longwood Opera, and her wicked sharp wit garnered her appearances on the television game shows “Challengers” – hosted by Dick Clark – and “Jeopardy” with the great Alex Trebek.
In her recent musical theatre and operetta performances, Warren brought a “piercingly ruminative rendition” of Margaret in The Light in the Piazza to DreamPlay Theatre with a “superlative voice” (Worcester Telegram & Gazette). After spending her youth with Mabel and Josephine Warren continues to perform G&S, most recently with Greater Worcester Opera where her 2019 Katisha demonstrated her “fine voice” and her acting was declared “masterful.”
We are proud to welcome this consummate performer to her debut with Sudbury Savoyards as Inez. Directly following her performances in The Gondoliers, Martha invites you to Brigadoon at Concord Players (April 24-May 9) where she is music directing, and conducting this gorgeous Golden Age musical.
