November 24, 2024
My Fellow Savoyards,
It’s the end of November. There is so much to say about this time of year. Yes, the days are shorter and the darkness has descended upon us. The leaves are gone and the starkness of winter is arriving. It’s also Thanksgiving and the beginning of “The Holiday Season,” whatever that means to you. I know this time of year can be fraught; family dynamics, politics, finances, and pressures to make it “special” or “perfect” can make it hard for us to focus on what matters. Loss and grief rear their heads, and we remember those who join us in memory or spirit, rather than for a plate of food or a song. My heart is with you as you navigate it all.
Fortunately, as Savoyards, November is the season where many of us join together in community several nights a week. We get to make art with beautiful music, laugh and enjoy each other’s company, and forge connection and community to help drive the darkness away. What a wonderful way to spend our time and talents! We have been rehearsing for Ruddigore, and I can’t remember a year where I have been so excited to do this work. We have an incredible group, and we sound GOOD. Already. Our fearless directing team, Briana, Aldo and Nadine have exciting plans for us, and the creative expertise to guide and stretch us to make the best show we can, all while having so much fun along the way. It’s going to be amazing.
The Holidays bring with them generosity and gratitude. I am deeply grateful for the incredible leadership rising up in the Sudbury Savoyards. New ideas, voices, organizational efforts, and fundraising plans are happening behind the scenes. We are fortunate to have many folks who generously donate their time and talent to this organization, and we need every last one of you to continue to step up. I am grateful for our members, new and returning, for everyone’s passion, excitement, volunteerism and care for this community and our work. Thank you!
This Thanksgiving, I also want to remind everyone that sustaining this community takes more than dedication and talent—it takes financial support. I’ll be honest – The Sudbury Savoyards are facing significant increases in our production and operating costs. We rely on the generosity of our members and supporters to thrive. Your donation helps us cover rising production costs, maintain our year-round rented work and storage space, and continue offering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference and ensures that we can continue this 63-year tradition of art, connection, and community.
As you think about your Giving Tuesday and end of year plans, I hope you will join me in making a financial contribution to The Sudbury Savoyards.
We really need your help.
Together, we can keep this extraordinary community thriving for generations to come. Thank you for being an essential part of our journey.
In gratitude
Graham Daley
