NOW ACCEPTION APPLICATIONS FOR STAGE AND MUSIC DIRECTORS
MUSIC DIRECTOR
The Sudbury Savoyards are actively recruiting a MUSIC DIRECTOR for our upcoming production of The Gondoliers, or The King of Barataria. We expect this production to go up mid-late February 2026 with auditions and rehearsals starting around October 2025. Rehearsals typically run a combo of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings.
The Sudbury Savoyards have presented Gilbert and Sullivan on a Grand Scale since 1961 and are excited to be continuing this rich tradition in 2026. This is where we need YOU. Do you want to work with a wide range of fabulous singers and a full orchestra? Are you excited to work on a Grand Scale production? Each year the Savoyards attract wonderful voices to audition for our lead roles. We also are unique in the area in that we do not require auditions for our chorus. We are open to all who want to join in!
The Sudbury Savoyards are a community theater group based in Sudbury, MA. Our mainstage productions field a full cast of leads (auditioned) and chorus (non auditioned). We are a very welcoming group and love meeting newcomers and bringing them into our community. Each year we recruit a full all-volunteer 25+ person orchestra creating an amazing experience for our audiences. (The M.D. will be assisted by an orchestra manager in the recruitment.)
In The Gondoliers Gilbert returns to the satire of class distinctions figuring in many of his earlier librettos. The story of the opera concerns brothers Marco and Giuseppe Palmieri, a pair of Venetian gondoliers who are told that one of them is heir to the throne of the fictional kingdom of Barataria. Until it can be discovered by the Grand Inquisitor which of them is the heir, they must rule jointly.
To apply, please send your resume and letter of interest to karen.powers@sudburysavoyards.org by Sunday May 4, 2025. We anticipate interviews for Music Director to be conducted virtually the week of May 20. In appreciation of your time and talent The Sudbury Savoyards are offering a $1000 stipend to our Music Director.
