The Grand Duke 2022
The Sudbury Savoyards are thrilled to be planning a return to the stage with Gilbert and Sullivan’s Grand Duke for winter/spring of 2022. Auditions are planned, rehearsals start mid-November and the show opens at Lincoln/Sudbury Regional HS on Friday, February 25th!
Vaccination status to participate
As many theater groups are doing, we will be requiring all cast and crew to be fully vaccinated, and we will be asking for proof of vaccination from everyone at auditions and/or the first meeting on November 10th. If you don’t plan on getting vaccinated for whatever reason, we welcome you to participate in next year’s production in 2023.
Two-Ring Grand Duke kick-off gathering: Sept 25th
Join us for our kick-off Grand Duke gathering on Saturday, September 25th from 3 – 6 pm at the Denneys’ home at 25 Wood Road, Marlborough, MA. This will be weather permitting, and we have a rain date scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd from 3 – 6 pm. The event will be held outdoors so we can safely sing and be a little more socially distanced. Meet our Grand Duke directors, producers, tech and production team, and visit with fellow Savoyards! We will sing through the score of our show, so please bring a score if you have one. This is a BSTS event (i. e. “bring something to share”): we will be looking for nibblies, desserts and beverages. Two Ring is also an opportunity for anyone who wants to join the chorus for Grand Duke to register! Chorus members are not required to audition. There is plenty of street parking. Lead-Role Auditions: Sept 27th & 29th
Auditions for lead roles for our spring production, the Grand Duke, will be held Monday, September 27th and Wednesday, September 29th starting at 7 pm, at the Sudbury Baptist Church (162 Landham Road, Sudbury). Auditions are by appointment only; for full character descriptions, sheet music for auditions, and to sign up for audition slots, click HERE . Masks must be worn at all times in the building, except when you are auditioning.
Chorus Call
Unlike past years, chorus members are not invited to attend lead auditions. As always, you do not need to audition to be in the chorus. You can register to be in the show by visiting our website, signing up at Two-Ring (see above), or coming to the first all-cast meeting on November 10th.
Set building and tech space needed!
We are looking for tech space to work on sets, props and costumes. Ideally, we’d like inexpensive space near Sudbury, such as warehouse space or rough office space, for a short-term rental between December and the end of February. Please contact the Locations Committee if you have any leads on spaces.
Sudbury Savoyards to perform at NEGASS
Sudbury Savoyards will be preforming at the New England Gilbert and Sullivan Society (NEGASS) 45th Anniversary celebration on October 16th! Keep an eye on the NEGASS website for more information.
Spring 2022: 60th Celebration Gala
Because of the rising number of COVID cases, complicated by the delta variant, we felt that it was best to postpone our 60th Anniversary Celebration Gala until next Spring. We know it will technically be our 61st year in 2022, but we still plan for a fun event filled with music, food, fabulous auction items, and celebration of 60 years of performing Gilbert and Sullivan as the Sudbury Savoyards!
Annual Meeting and YOR Presentation
On May 29, 2021 – despite unseasonably cold and rainy weather – Sudbury Savoyards held its Annual Meeting. There were many hugs, speeches, a viewing of the 60th Anniversary video (now also on our YouTube channel), the election of Board of Trustees, singing, an introduction of the Grand Duke artistic team, and the long-awaited presentation of Yeoman of Regard to Brendon Chetwynd. Congratulations and many thanks for all your dedication and work, Brendon!
