Yeoman of Regard - 2024
Tony Parkes has demonstrated versatility, commitment, and love for our group while his “extraordinary service” also comes with his incredible expertise. Tony is a Gilbert and Sullivan officiando; a true expert in the field. He has slowly and steadfastly given us a deeper and better understanding of G&S with excellence in portraying their works. He is always ready to define words, explain references, and provide context for the historical moment in which these works emerged. He knows every word to every opera, it seems, and can help anyone who stumbles, with grace. He will play the piano for a sing along if you need him to, and will happily consult with a director or anyone who has questions or wants to deepen and improve their vision.
Tony has made incredible contributions to our group, many behind the scenes and not obvious to all. The Sudbury Savoyards are better due to his expertise, generosity, guidance, and effort.
2024 Yeomen of Regard Playbill Page
The Sudbury Savoyards, like any community organization, rely on the selfless contributions of many people in order to survive and thrive. Among these are the precious few who contribute beyond expectation, leading the group to new levels of achievement and providing fundamental effort and expertise that keeps the group together and drives it forward. Throughout the years, The Sudbury Savoyards have been lucky to have more than our fair share of individuals that fit this bill. In order to recognize the effort and contribution of these individuals, “The Yeomen of Regard” was established in 2003. The criteria for consideration of nominees is “extraordinary service in support of the mission of the Sudbury Savoyards as defined in the Company’s Bylaws. The board of trustees accepts nominations of Yeomen on an ongoing basis.
We are very pleased to honor our friend Tony Parkes as the 2024 Yeomen of Regard.
The awarding of the honor of Yeomen of Regard is not to recognize popularity or longevity in the organization, though most of those recognized fit the bill. Tony has been an active member of the Sudbury Savoyards since 1997. He has served on the board of trustees, in the ensemble, set construction and painting crew, house staff, tech crew, stage director, props, lead actor, choreographer, and others.
While Tony has demonstrated versatility, commitment, and love for our group, Tony’s “extraordinary service” comes also with his incredible expertise. Tony is a Gilbert and Sullivan officiando; a true expert in the field. He has slowly but surely and steadfastly driven us toward a deeper and better understanding of G&S and toward excellence in portraying their works. He is always ready to define words, explain references, and provide context for the historical moment in which these works emerged. He knows every word to every opera, it seems, and can help any one who stumbles, with grace. He will play the piano for a sing along if you need him to, and will happily consult with a director or anyone who has questions or wants to deepen and improve their vision.
